Plant genotype and seasonality drive fine changes in olive root microbiota

چکیده

Due to global warming, the cultivation range of many crops is extending at higher altitudes and latitudes exposing plants new climatic environmental conditions, as early spring frosts. To face these issues in a sustainable agriculture context, innovative technologies, use biostimulants manipulation plant microbiota, are emerging. Here, we focused on anarea Northern Italy which olive tree cultivation, traditionally economically-relevant item Mediterranean agriculture, rapidly inland cold-temperate areas. We conducted an assessment prokariotic fungal microbiota present root endosphere cold-hardy cold-susceptible Italian cultivar (Leccino Frantoio, respectively) along winter seasons. Microbiota assembly diversity analysis revealed that microbiotas more than 20 years-old were highly stable with few variations occurring across seasons genotypes. Notably, detected fine seasonal-dependent community adjustments genotype, involved beneficial microbes pathogens. Moreover, different patterns abundance found for arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi their endobacteria revealing presence intimate tripartite interactions. Overall, results suggest healthy could provide useful tool help trees those related climate change.

Indoor-biofilter growth and exposure to airborne chemicals drive similar changes in plant root bacterial communities.

Due to the long durations spent inside by many humans, indoor air quality has become a growing concern. Biofiltration has emerged as a potential mechanism to clean indoor air of harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which are typically found at concentrations higher indoors than outdoors. Root-associated microbes are thought to drive the functioning of plant-based biofilters, or biowalls, ...

Root Herbivores Drive Changes to Plant Primary Chemistry, but Root Loss Is Mitigated under Elevated Atmospheric CO2

Above- and belowground herbivory represents a major challenge to crop productivity and sustainable agriculture worldwide. How this threat from multiple herbivore pests will change under anthropogenic climate change, via altered trophic interactions and plant response traits, is key to understanding future crop resistance to herbivory. In this study, we hypothesized that atmospheric carbon enric...

Plant genotype-specific archaeal and bacterial endophytes but similar Bacillus antagonists colonize Mediterranean olive trees

Endophytes have an intimate and often symbiotic interaction with their hosts. Less is known about the composition and function of endophytes in trees. In order to evaluate our hypothesis that plant genotype and origin have a strong impact on both, endophytes of leaves from 10 Olea europaea L. cultivars from the Mediterranean basin growing at a single agricultural site in Spain and from nine wil...

Gut and root microbiota commonalities.

Animal guts and plant roots have absorption roles for nutrient uptake and converge in harboring large, complex, and dynamic groups of microbes that participate in degradation or modification of nutrients and other substances. Gut and root bacteria regulate host gene expression, provide metabolic capabilities, essential nutrients, and protection against pathogens, and seem to share evolutionary ...

Salt and genotype impact on plant physiology and root proteome variations in tomato.

To evaluate the genotypic variation of salt stress response in tomato, physiological analyses and a proteomic approach have been conducted in parallel on four contrasting tomato genotypes. After a 14 d period of salt stress in hydroponic conditions, the genotypes exhibited different responses in terms of plant growth, particularly root growth, foliar accumulation of Na(+), and foliar K/Na ratio...
